Thanks for the article! Had someone contact me in this exact same format for some art pieces I uploaded onto ArtStation. Have reported the platform to the hosting company. Thanks for creating awareness and helping us to avoid such scams!

That sounds good but also kind of suspicious. If someone offers you $5000 per piece without even seeing a digital version or knowing your history with digital sales, that’s already a red flag. And asking you to mint the works without naming a specific platform or giving clear steps is sketchy. Especially being in Iran, where sanctions can make you more vulnerable to fake platforms or scams. If he’s not giving you clear guarantees, don’t rush into it. And if he sends weird links or asks you to pay anything upfront, run. Better to take it slow and be 100% sure before doing anything. Try to find more information and possible reputation issues with the person and if you decide to do something, do it on your own terms. Never click on a link he sends to you, or visit places you are not already user of. If you want to sell something, first go to known pages if possible.

I said no I’ve never sold a digital copy of my art. He offered me a generous price (5000$ for each piece & 10% royalties) and also asked me to create a wallet, I live in Iran & sanctions are problematic, so the whole process took a long time, he asked to mint the works first but he didn’t introduce any website for that, could he be genuine?

The situation you describe shows several red flags commonly found in scams involving supposed NFT art sales. While it’s not possible to be totally sure without a thorough investigation, asking for an additional payment, in this case, a “sales tax” before releasing funds, is a red flag. These types of schemes often promise a sale and then ask for money under the pretense of fees, taxes, or verifications. We strongly advise not to send any more funds, to collect all available evidence, and to report the case to the appropriate authorities.

She told me that she operates on the website named imagebox.store I even minted my art and she purchased it but before withdrawal (which is free) they are asking up to pay a 10% sales tax. For the sales tax I’ve to fund my wallet again, and the buyer helped me cover most of the gas fee by directly transferring eth in my eth account attached in the website but I have to cover a significant portion. Can you please tell me wether it’s a scam or not and wether I should proceed with this or not?

Comment on Intellectual Property vs Industrial Property by Stephen https://www.safecreative.org/blog/en/2021/01/21/intellectual-property-vs-industrial-property/comment-page-1/#comment-516415 Thu, 18 Sep 2025 01:19:44 +0000 https://www.safecreative.org/blog/en/?p=4251#comment-516415 The article lays out the legal distinctions in a clear, balanced way—helping readers appreciate differences they might not have thought through before. It’s thoughtful and informative, not just for creators but for anyone interested in how innovation, ownership, and creativity intersect. I came away with a sharper understanding of how these concepts shape what we value and protect.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Seems that most of the sites recently created are a bit shady. Probably the best way is for the artist to set the rules in case of purchases and make any alleged collector to go and buy from the platform you use, like Rarible or OpenSea.

The scamming NFT site is Mint Axis. Bitvavo exchange discovered the scam and closed my account. There was still € 3500 in my Bitvavo account that they didn’t transfer. Lucky me. However, I lost € 6500.
Your example of the email text sounds very familiar!
Do you know what NFT site I cán trust?

I’d be careful with such sites in general: https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/forgemints.store
